You might have fond memories of Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts in
the woods, but you might have forgotten about poison ivy and poison ivy

Poison ivy is a nasty plant that will leave a rash on almost
anyone it comes in contact with. While some people are fortunate enough to be

area where poison ivy might be hiding, it’s always a good idea to wear long
pants and a long shirt––and not to randomly rub your face against plants. None
of this talk of prevention does any good to someone once they’re exposed, so
what is the proper means of poison ivy treatment?
For poison ivy treatment, it’s always a good idea to predict
the possibility of exposure and pack some sort of first aid kit. You’ll want to
give the exposed area a cleanse of rubbing alcohol to disinfect it. From there,
you generally want to rinse off the area to try to remove the oil from the
poison ivy that spreads the rash.
Even in the wild, some people seem to think that man-made
solutions are the best. Sometimes, there’s something to be said for using
natural ingredients and natural solutions for problems we have. In the case of
something like poison ivy, using a natural poison ivy treatment is a good idea.
Many people will take an antihistamine to relieve the symptoms, but this will
not do anything to actually slow the spread of the rash, or to make it heal any
faster. You can also try a topical cortiscoteroid, which won’t help hasten the
healing of the rash either, but can benefit you by relieving the immediate
symptoms, or at the very least, alleviating them somewhat.
Your choice of poison ivy treatment is also dependent on
whether you are suffering from a mild case or a severe case. A mild case might
be a light rash, but a severe case can have welts and blisters and oozing, and
seeing a doctor is probably the wisest course of action. Once you’ve met with
your doctor, you can start to explore the different types of poison ivy
treatment you have at your disposal.
At any rate, it’s often a lot smarter to
just avoid poison ivy in the first place.
Of course, accidents do happen, so just make sure you’re
prepared with proper first aid and some way to cool the affected area down.
