Flu Remedies for this upcoming winter

It’s no fun to have the flu, so it’s always a good idea to
look into the different flu remedies out there. If you want to prevent or
alleviate the flu and its symptoms, there are some natural methods that can
help. On the other hand, there is also a vaccination, and this has its own pros
and cons.
The flu is short for influenza, and it’s actually a fairly
general, overarching term for the many strains of influenza that come about. In
actuality, there are always quite a few strains of influenza, because the
influenza viruses change rapidly to avoid their own destruction. Flu symptoms
can be pretty bad, and usually include fever, chills, muscle aches, headaches
or stomachaches, and coughing. In some extreme cases, the flu can keep you out
of commission for weeks, and tens of thousands of Americans die each year from
some kind of flu (usually the very young, the very old, or the sick).
Vaccination is one of the many flu remedies you hear about
often. The point of a vaccination is to introduce a small amount of the virus
that you’re hoping to avoid later on. The way it works is, when your body sees
a dangerous virus, it will send antibodies to attack and destroy it. Similar to
the way your Internet browser will save records of the websites you visit, the
antibodies remember which viruses they’ve seen before. When a virus shows up
that your body has already seen, your immune system will not let it infect you
(in theory).
There are some caveats to this. In unfortunate cases, the
introduction of the virus through vaccination simply gets the recipient sick,
from an allergic reaction or infection. This isn’t exceedingly common, but
there’s always the chance that getting a shot of something foreign in your body
will end up making you feel under the weather. In rare cases, you might have an
extreme reaction to the shot, even death. In addition, because the flu viruses
change so quickly, there is actually no guarantee that your body will encounter
the same flu virus down the road. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you will
suffer from the same one, but it does mean that you might catch another one.
One of the best flu remedies has nothing to do with
vaccinations. Sure, vaccinations are considered a smart choice for anyone with
a weak immune system, but nothing actually beats having a good, working body.
If you can take preventative measures and live a healthier lifestyle, you’ll
find that you just don’t get sick as often. When you do get sick, you might get
better in a few days rather than a week. This is all because of a healthy
immune system and a body that just works better.
Whenever possible, giving your body what it needs to do its
job is better than introducing something else to try to help. This means that
you find natural flu remedies that give your body a boost to the immune system
or help you naturally resist the flu, rather than risk the symptoms that come
from introducing the flu virus in a vaccination.
